The coop is almost done!! Update to show the awesome doors DH made!

It has been a few years, but I thought I would update the coop. The goats tore the chicken wire, so it was replaced with 2x4 wire. Other that that modification, it is much the same. We did have a problem with moisture, but that was easily solved by leaving a small section of the inner doors open.

The Bigs and the Littles *Update* It is working!

I still have two flocks, most of the time. Tonight for the first time I found one of the Littles roosting with some Bigs. It's progress, I suppose.

The Bigs and the Littles *Update* It is working!

My chickens evidently have roosting issues. lol Despite the fact that DH built a roost - that they sometimes hang out on during the day, they refuse to use it at night. Instead roosting in a five foot space (18 chickens!) on a 1x6 turned on its side to keep the shavings out of the door...

Quote: This has worked beautifully! They are still two flocks, but they are beginning to mingle more. I can't believe how well this has worked for us! Thanks for all the suggestions!

The coop is almost done!! Update to show the awesome doors DH made!

Quote: DH made one and attached it to the wooden floor. The chickens won't use it, instead they used the 1x6 I put in the front to keep the sliders clean(er). The hop on it during the day some, but at night all 18 of them are parked in a less than five food section of the 1x6. Silly birds!

    Buff Brahama cockerel?

That would make me very happy. If it is a roo, I will have four for twenty birds.... someone will have to go to freezer camp. It just looks so different from the other two, they have lots of black tail feathers.

Thanks, I kinda thought is she were a he, he would be coloring up differently. PRs were not a breed I had really wanted, but I am so happy I have them. She is the sweetest little bird.

Why does my Roo always look wet?

LOL I think they look like '80s throwbacks that used too much gel! My RIR is the same way.

    Buff Brahama cockerel?

This one just looks different than the other two, redder comb, later feathering... your thoughts? ETA: He/she is about ten weeks old. Also, pushed chest forward and beats his/her wings.... seems like roo behavior, but these are my first chickens ever! head shot bum shot whole bird

The Bigs and the Littles *Update* It is working!

You have three different types of aggression to worry about. There are some interrelationships between the three, but there are differences. You have the basic integration. That's where chickens recognize other chickens as members of the flock. If they see a chicken that is not a member of...

    Cedar with chickens....

I think there is a huge difference between cedar shavings and a cedar board. We ran out of the wood we were using on our coop and ended up using a couple pieces of old cedar board in the run. RE: Chocolate in dogs. It just depends on the acutal concentration of chocolate. Many years ago, we...

Why don't I see more inside-the-coop feed storage bins?

I ordered another metal building last night. 14x10. We are going to put a couple small (pygmy) goat stalls, a stachion for milking and feed storage, plus hopefully room for a few bales of hay. We have another location to store more hay.
