noticed hen holding her eye closed. The rims look swollen and there is a white spot towards front corner. Injury? Illness? (She’s been vaccinated for mareks)
Thanks. It’s about 8’x3.5’, very small. Have an extension on order but won’t be here till end of August
My concern is the gravel hurting their feet when they scratch through the bedding
I am thinking about trying to remove the gravel, but it’s deep and packed and it’s hot out. Ha.
I have to set up my small coop as a semi-long term jail for my feather eating hen and her friend. The only place I have that I can put it is on gravel. I was thinking I could make a frame out of 2x6 and fill it with mulch so they aren’t right on the gravel. Should I lay plywood down between...
I think it’s going to be great. It gets SO hot in there. I’ll get temps before turning it on then a while after if we ever get a hot day. (Weather been weird this summer)
Installed this vent fan today. Should have taken 1/2 hour. Took all afternoon. I have no explanation except had to trim out the outside hole that I couldn’t access from outside and went back and forth to miter saw 8,526 times.
Tell me it’s worth it?
Planning on getting some sort of smart...
So I recently put in a roosting “tree” and they dont use it AT ALL. I put treats all over the perches and they knocked down the ones from the lowest, but thats it. I’ve placed them up there to show them, a nope. Any other ideas to replace this tree with that they might use? They love the...
I’m making a shade shelter inside the run for the girls to go under when they need to feel safe or want some more shade. It will be short enough they will get on it and perch. Kind of like a dog house, but with open front and back. What can I make the roof out of that I can easily hose...
Having a lot of trouble with my flock. Someone is pulling vent feathers and I cant figure out who. They dont do it when I watch, no matter how long. But about 1/3 of my hens a have naked bottoms. No mites/lice. I have a bully and dont know who. What would you do?
I’ve tried locking up...
Building a table-like structure to go inside the run for the chickens to get under to feed safe and to get on top of just for some enrichment. How far apart would you space the “decking” boards so toenails dont get caught? Close enough they can walk around on it and legs don’t fall through...
I like them. They are just enough to take the edge off i think. I have mine hung a little high probably could lower them and be ok. I feel like they are just enough to keep their combs from getting frostbite. They dont heat the air around them, just warm whatever object is close. (Chicken...
so when i ordered chicks last spring, i carefully planned how many i wanted and ordered 6 from a company that say “we ship as few as 3” at the end of april when it was warm. They sent 11. I should have rehomed the extra and am truly mad at past me. I feel like having this many is causing so...
