I crossed Splash Cochin hen x Blue Cochin rooster and got one white chick and one smokey grey chick. I thought I would get 50% splash and 50% blue but this didn't happen.

This has happened to me four times...So I now have a big plastic owl on one of my post beside the coop and I also got a very large splash orpington rooster. It's been 3 months now and I havent lost a hen yet.

Buy starter chick feed from your local TSC store...make sure you have a waterer that is shallow enough for the chicks to drink out of but not drowned, add rocks to it to be on the safe side. After the first or second day momma hen will take them outside and she will take care of everything else.
My Bantam cochin just hatched 12 babies...she doesnt seem to be having any problems with them. All are growing beautifully and quite healthy. I would try it, if it doesnt work out put them in a box with a light. Good luck!!
