    Broody hen advice

@DobieLover's article has counseled me through this several times now (God forbid I mess anything up!). With a broody hen, you have a major assist in raising and integrating the peeps! It is, however, important to have your proper brooder set up and ready to go around the time the chicks hatch...

Flystruck hen not eating, terribly lonely: Advice, please

She seems more content—I took out the mash, then Paloma. A few minor scuffles, with one hen racing away from the boss lady and my roo breaking up a fight with a normally sweet Dominique (I picked up the latter twice to remove her from the scuffle, but my roo stepping in and chest-bumping her out...

Wound/Flystrike: Can this chook be saved? (graphic photo)

Thank you. She is out and I sat there with my work for a bit. She chased off one hen, then another came at her (it's always the small cute ones...) and my roo broke up the fight, which calmed things down. Paloma now has an entire half of the run *and* the mash dish to herself. She ate a little...

That is what I was thinking, too. She needs to eat. Thank you!

Flystruck hen not eating, terribly lonely: Advice, please

For reference on her case: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/wound-flystrike-can-this-chook-be-saved-graphic-photo.1670564/ Wednesday, I realized my five year-old EE hen Paloma had flystrike, and thanks to all the posts here, I was able to take immediate action to begin helping her and...

Wound/Flystrike: Can this chook be saved? (graphic photo)

Well, I think Paloma has stopped eating. Even scrambled egg and treats cannot tempt her, but when I take her outside, she scratches most energetically and happily and eats greens. She tries to run around. She complains about being brought back inside. She even tidbitted over a couple of small...

Wound/Flystrike: Can this chook be saved? (graphic photo)

@Eggcessive Sorry to ping you, but would Fish Mox 250 from an online aquarium shop work? Goodness, I cannot find the stuff fish keepers use anywhere (we are rural, and our vet is closed for the day), even the aquarium store!

Wound/Flystrike: Can this chook be saved? (graphic photo)

Thank you. I'll have to check the pet stores for amoxicillin! We still have to spray the entire coop, unfortunately, but will. I wish the permethrin didn't smell so awful! Ha! We have a couple of fans for the flock, and she is enjoying the smaller one with her Bach CD right now.

Wound/Flystrike: Can this chook be saved? (graphic photo)

Thank you, my other thread about that got the same response. I just wasn't sure if that is what I was seeing or not. She had just about always had rear issues, so is at least accustomed to being cleaned up. We *may* have seen one tiny maggot in her bath water last night, but it was so tiny I'm...

What did my hen just eliminate?

Thanks, that's what I thought, but wasn't positive. Appreciate it!

What did my hen just eliminate?

She is also being treated for flystrike (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/wound-flystrike-can-this-chook-be-saved-graphic-photo.1670564/). The poop was a bit watery, but it is hot and humid. She eats All Flock, free ranged half the day until I found the flystrike Wednesday. She has been...

Wound/Flystrike: Can this chook be saved? (graphic photo)

Thank you both! So far, Paloma seems to be doing well with two baths and the other treatments daily. Her appetite is good, and I have taken her on a couple of supervised walks outside since she seems lonely in her mosquito-netted chickfirmary in the garage (it's very hot and humid). Tonight I...

Wound/Flystrike: Can this chook be saved? (graphic photo)

This morning I noticed my five year-old EE Paloma had a dirty rear again (they eat All Flock, free range half the day, fresh water with occasional Rooster Booster when it's hot, I occasionally toss some of the Scratch & Peck Whole Grain Feed out as a treat), so I grabbed her for a quick bath...

    Egg broken by/beneath broody

Well, as it turns out, when we lifted our hen, nearly all the eggs had a fair amount of broken egg on them and there was also egg in the nest material itself. Alas! We are going to start over. :)

    Egg broken by/beneath broody

Found most of an eggshell in our broody pen this afternoon when I went out to check on everyone; the broody (who has raised chicks before, FWIW) pretty clearly removed it from the nest. It must have been accidentally broken or she decided it was off somehow. I checked an egg from beneath her and...

    Young rooster has funny walk

He seems better! His father has chased him off a couple of times for being too pushy with hens, so maybe he took a bad step?

Oh, absolutely, he really is my buddy.

    Young rooster has funny walk

Is it possible he just gave himself a sprain? He does seem a little better today, but that might just be hopeful thinking. Didn't think to get another video when I let them out to free range.

Here are some photos of him. To me, his feet look fine but it is of course possible I have missed something.
