    17 hens , 1roo the coop is 8'x16', i have put up a run on the other side under the tree. they mainly free range but on really hot dayz and when i'm outta of town i'll leave them in the run near there water and food.

    I first built it in a sunny area not a good idea, so i moved it to a shady location under a tree. They get some mornin sun and afternoon sun, temps in the the coop stay reasonable. so i would say that in the the shade girls happy happy.

    thank's for the compliment so lucky, I built the coop nice and roomy for additional girls. Took me 3 weeks this past spring.

    Thank's for all the input, I've learned that chickens do what they do. Oh well as long as they are happy that is all that matters to me.

    Thanks for all the reply's, my girl's are 9 months old. 8 hens and one roo, when they were small i had them in a big wash tub with a couple of bricks, they would set on top. There coop is 8x 16, they free range every day. When they come in for the night they just gather in the corner of the...

    My chicks like to huddle together in the corner of the coop. They have been doing this since they were little, they huddle up front by the opening of the coop. Open air design is this good or bad for them in the cold months. I've tried to put them on there roost at night , not what they want...

    Very nice lookin coop, I went with thompsons water seal to keep the natural look easy to apply with sprayer. Again great job

    Thank you, I live in northwest Indiana 20 mins west of south bend. very happy with the coop. As a matter of fact i moved the coop to a new location under a maple tree for better cooling in the summer. i will post some pics later today.
