    kentucky specks?

The following is some information from Jay of the Kentucky Specks yahoo group: "I talked with Roy Stacey last night. For those who do not know Mr Stacey he is the man that named the breed. He named the breed in 2006. He had to give the birds a name to show them in a SPPA show. Before 2006 they...

    indoor house chickens

That is an interesting pet cage. Would the chicken be on a wire floor or bedding? With my current set-up, even with the 12" sides of the tote and the 1/2" wire mesh top, there are wood chips on the floor that are from when the Serama scratch around. Oh well.

    indoor house chickens

I purchased a digital scale and weighed the Serama. 2010 cock: 491 grams or 17.3 ounces. class C. 2010 hen: 322 grams or 11.4 ounces. class A. According to Jerry Schexnayder's website only 15% of class A hens are viable. Somewhat disappointing. I might sell her. I also weighed my lavender...

If I go back and delete the photos in the uploads, does it delete the photos in the posts? To answer my own question: yes. That is why the photo is missing from a previous post.

Alternate cage cup hanger. If I made it with the holes horizontal instead of vertical, then the height adjustment increments would be smaller and probably better. It was an after thought that I will implemant with the next one I make.

    indoor house chickens

I do not know what the cage cup hanger is supposed to be. I found it at a yard sale. We sometimes use things for other than what they were originally invented for or manufactured to be. The cage cups are one cup measure capacity. One for water, one for gamebird & poultry crumble mix, and one...

I read somewhere that an 18" X 24" (432 square inches) enclosure is adequate for a smaller pair of Serama. The acquisition of this pair was rather quick and I did not want to miss the opportunity. I do not know what class size or weight in grams or ounces these are. Because I have no prior...

Funniest moment I've had with my chickens

When we lived in OK from 2002-2007, we had a Buff Chantecler hen that was a "mouser". At first, I could not believe what I saw, but it was awesome. Also, mowing was fun when the poultry would follow along and snatch the grasshoppers leaping out from the mower.

My lavender bantam Ameraucana hen has a very docile temperament. I have taken her to the public library for story time. She calmly sits on my lap and coos while the toddlers pet her. I let her free range when we are outside doing yard work and we can monitor for predators. She follows us...

are there any recessive chocolate poultry in the USA?

I think the sex-linked recessive chocolate is a very pretty plumage color on any breed of chicken. I prefer solid/self, but recessive chocolate with patterns would also be pretty. My first pattern choice would be recessive chocolate mottled.
