Thanks for the advice and sympathy.
I found a rhode island red carcass and so I put the dead chickens on my dogs collars. I keep having to put more and more zip ties on them because my boxer will not stop trying to eat the body. Any advice on how to do this?
Thanks guys. I have 2x4 fencing on the bottom up to about 3 feet (which they can't get through, trust me they've been trying) and my dogs aren't that tall but I should've known. I chained them up and hit them with the dead carcasses as I hear sometimes works but my golden retriever broke off of...
So I've been dealing with a sick flock recently. I've been running all over the place getting medicine and treating my chickens. So I've been dealing with a lot of nasty poop covered chickens and swollen eye chickens. Anyways, I wake up this morning to my dogs in the chicken coop and 3 of my not...
I'd say possum or raccoon. I would imagine that anything bigger would've carried it away rather than leave it mostly uneaten. It doesn't look like a cat to me either.
TrystInn, thank you I will do that.
Pickaduck, yes I realize that. 20/20 hindsight. I suppose I didn't think of it because I know about 10 people with chickens and they never did anything like quarantine new chickens, and they've never had any issues. I've kept lots of animals and I'm familiar...
I'm pretty sure they have infectious coryza. Some have the classic symptoms and then I've had some that don't really show coryza symptoms but just drop dead. I've thrown some diatomaceous earth in there to try and take care of any bugs that might be on them.
More and more of my flock just keep getting sick and I'm trying different antibiotics but the noticeably sick don't seem to get any better. If I decide to cull the flock, before I get new chickens what should I do to make sure that the new chickens don't get sick from the leftover residue of the...
Thank you for the suggestions. I will probably try the scrambled eggs because they don't seem to like yogurt. I had heard that Sulmet was effective for respiratory diseases, but I will pick up some duramycin next time I get a chance. I have some diatomaceous earth that I heard is effective for...
Thank you, the worst part is that it's almost always my favorite bird that dies.
Yes there have been new additions. At the same time though they're all fairly new birds. I've only been keeping chickens for about 2 months. 9 of my birds came from an individual, and most of them were missing some...
My sick silkie died a few days ago after I treated it with Sulmet, and then I noticed that my white japanese bantam was breathing heavily but otherwise acting normal. So I decided to treat all of my chickens with the Sulmet. That was a few days ago and the treatment was over. Today I found my...
Thank you, yes I am in the US. Can you still eat the eggs if they're carriers of the infection? I would certainly prefer having a closed flock over killing them because I do have 11 other birds, most of which I like.
I guess the smell is coming from her face although its hard to tell. She has a very small amount of poop stuck to a couple feathers--it doesn't really seem like a noteworhty amount. It smells like a really strong gag-worthy animal smell. I looked her over and I didn't see any wounds or anything...
Also, I know some doctors and nurses so is there any medication that they might have access to for people and that I could get from them today that could help this chicken? I ask because I used to keep exotic pets and there was a lot of medications that were meant for people but could be...
I have a silkie thats about 3 months old, and I went out today to feed them and such but I knew something was wrong when she didn't run out to greet me. I knew where she was though and so I picked her up, but she smelled just awful. Her eye was closed and her other one was watery looking. I've...
