I do not have a rooster.
I will call this morning to see if they will give advice on my flock.
I will research the options you suggested as well and start a treatment. How long after antibiotic treatment before the eggs are safe to eat again?
Thank you for your reply.
They only emailed me the report on the bird I sent them (Bluebell), no recommendations on the rest of the flock. I will call them tomorrow to see if they can advise me on my other girls.
Bluebell only showed symptoms of something not being right the day she died. (One...
I have a small backyard flock of 12 birds.
I've had 3 die within the past month, so I had a necropsy done on the most recent loss. The results came back positive for E Coli in the oviduct and coelomic cavity. She had Caseonecrotic salpingitis and peritonitis most likely caused by the e coli...
So sad to report that she did not make it through the night.
I’m a little shocked. She was still eating and drinking last night. She never did poop so maybe that’s what caused it.
She also has never laid a egg and all her chick mates started in December. Maybe she has something wrong internally.
Thank you for your reply. I crushed up a Tums tab and put it in her food. (I saw the recommendation online). I will try soaking her again and palpating her vent.
My Cream Legbar is about 34 weeks old and still has not laid a egg. Her comb has finally darkened up so I have been hoping for a egg from her daily. The past few days she has been standing like she needs to poop. I’ve just been keeping my eye on her.
Well today I noticed she was not hanging out...
We are 5 weeks old. We are supposed to be pullets. So far so good?
Chick 1- RIR
Chick 2- Easter Egger
Chick 3- Buff Orpington
Chick 4- Cream Legbar
Chick 5- Blue Andalusian
Chick 6- Delaware
Chick 7- Cuckoo Bluebar
Bluebell seems to be doing a little better today, but still resting quite a bit. I felt her crop and it is back to normal squishiness. She did not want the electrolytes I was offering. She pooped and it looks very strange. Maybe it’s what was impacted? Here is a pic.
I fed them some hard boiled eggs and she did come to eat some. I soaked some small pieces of bread with coconut oil and a little calcium and fed them to her. I gently massaged her crop again, although it is soft now.
She seems like she is slowly perking up. I saw her poop and she is preening...
I just did the coconut oil treatment. It worked very well. I put her back in the yard. She is still acting uncomfortable. Does it take a bit for them to feel better? Here is a pic.
Hi,
I have a year old hen who I noticed is spending most of her time this evening standing around. When I went to investigate I noticed her crop feels like a ping pong ball. She was clucking to me and has bright eyes. She got up on the perch to sleep but just looks scrunched up and...
I have a mixed flock of 9 hens and 4 pullets. Today when I collected the eggs there was a very small speckled egg in the box. The only chicken I have who lays similar colored eggs is my RIR and she is 7 and tends to lay weak shelled eggs (this little one is strong!). Could one of the 14 week old...
I bought these 4 cuties sexed, so hopefully they are all girls. They are 4 weeks old. Did MPC get it right?
Chick 1 is a Austra White
Chick 2 is a Silver Cuckoo Marans
Chick 3 is a Cuckoo Bluebar
Chick 4 is a Black Jersey Giant
Okay, I will clean it again now. I bought some electrolytes and probiotics and scattered meal worms in the bedding to give her something to do. Would oral antibiotics help prevent infection as well or are they only for internal infections?
