I use quail egg trays but I have 2 sportsman cabinet incubators. For the smaller incubators you just need "quail rails" for your turner. They are pretty easy to change out too.

Its not easy emotionally, but I raise almost all our our meat type foods here. We also process all our animals at our farm, I will not use a butcher shop to process my food.. I like knowing exactly how that animal was taken care of. And when their "bad day" comes I want to know its done...

Guys I am not trying to offend any one, you need at least 3 or 4 hens in with 1 cock Quail. Otherwise plan for moving him out on a regular basis, weekly or he will overbreed and kill your hens. They are a very active breeding species. Coturnix are intended for a meat bird, and have been...

Oh my, no. I have around 30 or so quail and I have never seen that, have kept them almost 4 years now I think. that tells me there is a problem with the cock, or the incubator. Do you just have one boy?

I think hatching so late they are probably starving. run some of the feed in a food processor, you can even tap your finger on it to show them its food. The boys do crow a lot when younger, it lessens as they mature. A cover over them would help, like folks cover a parrot cage.

I know it makes you crazy! I've hatched over 3 years now and I still get anxious, run to the incubator just to peer in and knowing its not even time yet, lol. I have 44 chicks out of 60 eggs this week so far and several are hatching or zipping. It never gets old for me.

What some folks use is a plastic shoebox, with a lid. Cut holes along the sides just big enough for them to get heads in there to eat. They scatter the feed inside the shoe box but not wasted on the cage floor. For the chicks I feed small amounts frequently throughout the day. I am retired...

I am lucky enough to be able to get game bird Startina from Purina, and I grind it in the food processor. Its gave me huge birds, and really gets the chicks started well. I have around 50 breeders now, am loving the egg production.I usually get 2 or 3 bags, toss 2 in the freezer until I need one.

I don't comingle quail with any other breeds. Chicken and Turkey chicks will peck their feet, for example same for guineas. I had an adult quail escape a few years ago, and the turkey and guinea killed and ate it before I got to it. The other issue is disease transmission. I allow free range for...

I mention this because I have lost birds. I tried using rabbit cages to house quail, and it was a terrible mistake. If something causes them to flush (fly up) Any type of hard roof will kill them. They don't think about it and will flush upwards. if your cage does not have a soft roof it will...
