    I don't have quail yet, but I've been looking into them and read this whole thread. I think yours are too young to tell still, from what I've seen you can start being able to tell on the brown ones when they are around 4 weeks old. The white ones, you have to wait until they are breeding age...

    I wouldn't free range them, one, these birds have been in captivity (as a species) for so long that their most basic instincts are disappearing such as laying eggs in a nest and hatching young, I would imagine that their other instincts are also pretty much gone at this point so chances that...
