Got another egg today, noticed the shell was weak while I was cleaning it so I decided to crack it open. This is what I found!

My quail have given me not one, but two enormous eggs!

Got an egg today! First day we've had that it's been nice out. Guess my quail don't like the cruddy weather. Can't blame them. Looking forward to when they all start.

Our weather has been overcast or very rainy. Sucks. It's like trying to walk through soup. Hopefully this nastiness will clear up... It'd be nice to get some more quail eggs.

They're not in molt. :P They went into molt before winter. The weather has been pretty crummy lately, so it might be the light. Not getting as much sun as we were last week.

Speaking of coturnix... Has anyone else's quail started laying and then stopped? Mine laid 5 eggs, then quit. I haven't had any in over a week now.

I put them in the fridge because I have no counter space to leave them out! Lol. If I had the space id leave it out. I'll have to do some research. I really want them to have the optimal diet for laying/dressing

Wash with a soapy paper towel. They were pretty dirty. Alright. Where do you get fish meal? I've never seen it, and honestly wonder if it's available in TN. Lol

Perfectly normal, just very thin. It broke when I wiped it with a paper towel. Feed stores around me only offer about 26-28%, I can't remember which. I'll definitely put some oyster shells in the cage and see if they eat it. Could it be because they're young? Also, what are some thoughts on...

What should I feed my quail now that they're laying? I was so very surprised to get 2 eggs this morning! Unfortunately, I broke one cleaning it because it was very thin. Do I give them oyster shells like chickens?

I didn't even think of that. Hopefully I'll be able to take a picture of it today next to one of my known males. Edited to add picture. :) I'm not sure if you can see the spots on the breast... They are dark and somewhat faint. I can add arrows or circles if need be.

Yes, they're Coturnix! Sorry I didn't specify. I was bird-brained last night. I did vent sex them just a couple minutes ago... Turns out it's a male. He HAD a somewhat spotty breast when I first bought him, but they're molting right now. It's definitely rusty, but not as rusty as my other males...
