I also have an incubator and have hatched quail peeps. The silkie was just an experiment. Thanks for the Coryza reminder, though, I had forgotten about that risk.
I'm no expert, but I tried that exact same thing and my silkie hen accidentally smashed them all. I've heard it's possible, though, so worth a shot at least, perhaps?
Too cute! Why didn't I think of that..lol..used all the extra chicken and ducks eggs but completely forgot about the dozens of excess quail eggs I have lying all over the house.
I guess I was just impatient. My now-nearly-12 week olds started laying yesterday. :yesss: Have one bantam chick egg due to hatch next week, so I'm going to save up what I get from them 'till then and pop them in the bator to test fertility.
Ah! They're in an indoor hutch and I had been leaving a light on all night but started turning it off the last couple of weeks. Didn't even think about the light contributing. Thanks.
Wow. My 7 are between 10 and 10.5 weeks old and I've never had a single egg from them. I'm positive at least 2 are female, and 3 I'm not sure of. Lazy birdies..
