Coturnix quail are non native and invasive. If bred to wild bobwhite it creates mules that aren't good for the environment. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's illegal to release them in the state of Texas.
I don't blame you there. We run misters on days it's just unbearable. Saturday will be one of those days. Heat index expected to be 118 regular temp expected at 108. I will be running misters from around 3pm until the tank runs out. I have a 50 gallon tank near the pens I pump from. I'll leave...
Here's some pictures of some of my birds. Terrible quality, my camera on my phone isn't great. Water, in Texas, is one of the most important things. We keep gallon sized jugs in all of our pens. No need in losing birds to heat. It was 100* in the shade.
Frozen grapes, peas, and kale are offered...

They'll get along fine. Its introducing that's hard. Introduce when they're close to the same size. Include hiding spots for the young birds if you can.
JJ gives more great information.
Nikki, you had asked about doves and quail. The reason they're typically housed together in aviaries is because they get along so well. There's nothing beneficial from it. Since you can eat dove also, they make a good companion breed.
1. If you buy a dozen cots, be prepared to have extra males. Have a pre planned escape route before maturity or the extra malee will tear your females up. Buying started quail or young adults will be your best bet. Young quail are very needy. One wrong temperature fluctuation and you no longer...
Fat Daddy, to finish our conversation on pickled/canned quail.
It's a lot like potted meat. If you do it right, stuff lasts forever. Doesn't taste half bad, but, is an acquired taste. My grandmother used to hatch thousands of quail every summer. Jumbo Bobs, standard Bobs, Coturnix, all sorts...
