Oops! I should have clarified, we don't let ours out without supervision. We built two really nice coops and we hand raised them so when we open a coop door they come over to see whats going on. If we have the coop near the greenhouse they go right for it, they love it in there. The only...
I had this dilemma!
I won't kill an animal I've raised. Just can't. Maybe if I had been raised on a farm I'd be tougher, who knows? But once something has a name and looks at me like I'm mama I just can't.
The good news is that I have a large greenhouse and garden area, and I don't use...
That might be beyond my bravery level! I'm thinking a newbie like me should probably stick to a regular incubator at least until I get better at this, and I don't have a water heater so even if I wanted to......but thanks so much!
So glad you mentioned turners! I bought a little giant and I'm finding information on using it for quail vague at best....do I need to buy turners plus quail rails or just the quail rails? Thanks for any info on this I feel like a dunce!
My first five were from a private party, four dollars each. My second bunch was from a local feed store, granted these are all fancy pants varieties, $50 for a dozen.....but I'm in a very small town.....
Must be the season! Mine were getting along fine until this weekend. It was bad enough when Queenie ( my dominant male) was putting the boys in their place, now he's pecking the ladies! Needless to say, we're building another coop as fast as we can! As to the name Queenie, let's just say...
I've got a few new one's with reddish color but not that lovely dark head! Now I want one...addictive little things! Let us know about the LED light!
I'm trying to figure out how to get them fourteen hours of daylight to lay when the second the sun pops out the little buggers go...
I'm in the same boat, I just won't kill them....I don't know what your yard set up is but I have a greenhouse we are quickly outgrowing. Once the new one is up we're converting it for the roos...instead of freezer camp, I'm sending mine to summer camp!
You may be able to find homes for them...
Thank you so much! I suspect she was pulling my leg because she knows I'm originally a city girl who is trying to learn all this. Still building a second coop though, these little birds are addictive!
Good Morning,
I was just told not to keep the roos and the girls together by a coworker....she said that if I do I will be fishing little beaks out everytime I crack an egg.....gave me nightmares I can tell you! I'm thinking of building a second coop for my girls just to avoid it but another...
That's not a coop, that's quail heaven! Gorgeous job! I'm still trying to get my design off the ground so I'm curious how you came up with it. And hints would be fantastic!
