    How long has it been up.... It can take a while for it to work... Heating up and cooking. I was struggling with my compost and I had to force myself to walk away to give it time to cook properly before messing with it.

    Quick question.... Is your litter wet???? And how much ventilation does it have.. Overly wet litter will cause high ammonia. What kind of bedding are you using??? Is it absorbent. You are going to want to use a bedding that can absorb the moisture. I think of you can figure out the ventilation...

    Agreed.... With the exception of worm bins natural microbes need to be able to breakdown the heap... As well as a good mix of greens vs brown with the nitrogen levels of chicken poop.. Can be done, but more research might be needed to help you along.

    The only thing I can think is space and ventilation... I don't mix my deep litter pile but I do change it out more often then most and add it to my compost. I also still have a poop board for inside the coop I clean often and the deep litter is for under the coop with free ranging birds. So it...
