    Duck Breed Focus - Cayuga

The ones with the lighter area on their chest (I think the two leftmost) are the Swedish. Some people use Blue Swedish for Blue and Black colors or some say Black Swedish for the Black. If your Blue Swedish are black, that will be the only difference. If they are Blue, they should be a...

Actually 4 in that box are no longer with me The big yellow one to the left was my Pekin Snow. She died last July when for some reason the automatic door didn't open and we slept in. Didn't know the ducks where locked in their house until near noon when it was 89 degrees outside and hotter...

If Storey's advocates garlic, I would say it is OK. But here http://www.liveducks.com/duckcare.html it is on their "no-no" list. As I said earlier, I don't KNOW, I have just seen several references that indicate it might be bad. I just got my Niacin in the human section of Wal*mart

I don't know how much is in there, or how bad it is but I would rather error on the over cautious especially with 'lings. Garlic (and onions) are not supposed to be good for ducks. I have had no personal experience here and am just parroting what I have read, but it threw a red flag for me.

    Duck Breed Focus - Cayuga

You are quite welcome. I used "Durvet Performance Poultry Probiotics & Electrolytes for poultry" which I bought from my local feed store. Many people recommend Save-a-chick products which should also be available at the feed store. I really don't know the difference. I chose the one I did...

    Duck Breed Focus - Cayuga

As soon as you take them out of the box, dip their bills in the water of their waterer in their brooder and make sure they swallow a drop do this one by one as you unpack them. When they are all unpacked make sure each one takes a drink on their own. This makes sure they know where the water is...

Interesting... I know I wasn't given the choice and Murdoch's (our feed store) had to pick up their shipment at the same time I did. Maybe different areas. I know a limitation is they have to be able to be "delivered" in 72 hrs so maybe we are far enough out that to the P.O. is all they can do...

    Duck Breed Focus - Cayuga

Live ducks normally go to the P.O. and you get a call at 3-5am to pick them up (they can't leave them on the porch in the weather). So nobody gets them delivered to their home or a P.O. box. Even the feed stores have to go to the P.O. in the early AM and pick up their birds. With Metzer (I...

    Duck Breed Focus - Cayuga

I know you said you had some issues with shipping but didn't say what, Metzer has all the breeds you were looking at and they sex their birds and 6 will cost the same as 2 (they will ship as few as 2 but because there is a minimum order amount, 2-6 costs the same). I got all my birds except for...

Those are some beautiful Cayuga's! My Cayuga, Pocahontas, has some pretty iridescents, but not nearly as much as these. She has to live in the shadow of my Black Swedish who has her colors turned up all the way... Go figure. Pocahontas is the dominant female in my flock and will peck anyone...
