I'm curious to see how McMurray's chicks are. I thought these were dying out in the US due to limited gene pool. I loved my rooster and lost him last Christmas. It's tempting to order some from McMurray but I've already moved onto another breed :(
I only have 1 roo and 1 hen and she's molting right now. I haven't tried hatching her eggs yet as I had no space for new chicks last year but I know they were fertile. It's only a small amount but I'd be happy to ship some bstches in the spring if people are desperate to find some. I know my...
Sorry I'm not sure if I shared this already but I hatched a few of niederrheiner roo x basque hen chicks back in late May and thought I'd pass on that it looks like the darker color from my basque hen brings out their autosexing down. Unless it is just coincidence that I was able to sex them...I...
I noticed over on the bielefelder thread that people have crossed their bielefelders with other autosexing breeds and get autosexing chicks. Just wondering if anyone here has crossed their niederrheiners with a darker down autosexing breed like bielefelder or legbar and if it's then possible to...
I can definitely keep and send data on my flock from uber chic this year. I'll probably be able to start breeding them in summer/fall of 2018.
I went through the thread again and don't see info on Niederrheiner broodiness. I found someone who can sell me a broody silkie (6 hr day trip, blech!)...
Yes, I've been following the thread, but this is only my second year having chickens and I've never had chicks or bred chickens before so I'm not confident that I'd be good enough at breeding them to standard yet.
Thanks! Trying to read up on both these and Bielefelders. They seem pretty similar. The Bielefelder looks like it might be a slightly better layer and I like that it's autosexing but seems like they're maybe not as friendly. I'll keep doing my research, but of course if anyone has ever owned or...
This chicken sounds like a dream come true for me. I am researching breeds for a new flock next year. I want to move from laying hens only to a dual purpose breed(s) that I can hatch myself. These hens are pretty, large, good layers, and have friendly roosters supposedly. Can any of you...
