I want to add my thanks for all the helpful information on BYC. I don't post often, but I'm reading and searching out answers every day. I also have a chick with wry neck and thanks to information on here I treated it, and it's doing great!
Hey Mike, my final hatch count is 13.
I started 30 eggs, 17 went into lockdown. I did eggtopsies on the four that didn't hatch. Two BCMs were in the wrong position so couldn't pip. Another BCM pipped internally but never externally; felt really bad about this one and wish I had intervened...
Just an update; set 30 eggs at 10pm, March 4th, had 10 clear, 1 BR and 2 EQ. I put 17 in lockdown Tuesday night. Two have pipped and are cheeping! Hopefully more will follow. Five of the eggs are BCMs (the rest of the dozen were clear) and I'm wondering if they usually hatch a little bit later...
Thanks ronott, I had already done everything you suggested. I just couldn't go to sleep until the temp looked good. It's my first hatch, so I'm probably overly concerned. The temp and humidity both look good, so I should get a good night's sleep tonight!
I just re-read the instructions about not adjusting temp after setting eggs; it's 2 to 4 hours, not 24. I was up 'til the four hours passed and everything stabilized.
I set 30 eggs last night around 10; not the best idea since I could hardly sleep last night. I stayed up 'til 3 checking to make sure the temp stabilized. There are 12 French Black Copper Marans, 6 assorted silkies, 6 assorted Orpingtons, all picked up locally yesterday. The other six are from...
I got three straight run mixed Polish last September, and only one had a distinctive "cap". It grew into a white-crested black roo. The other two with less distinct "caps" grew into pullets, one buff-laced and one silver-laced, who just started laying!
Count me in! I didn't think I could join this hatch but things fell into place, I found the eggs I wanted locally, and I'm picking them up on Friday! This will be my first time incubating, and I couldn't be more eggcited!
