The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

10/32 is my final count. Had a lot of clears so got about 50% hatch rate. Which I'm fine with for being a newbie still in training.

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Ducks decided they didn't want to hatch on the same day as the chickens. 3 ducks have pipped!!

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Meet "sticky" named by my daughter. I don't know how she's going to name all of these and how I'm suppose to raise meat birds later if she keeps naming them. Anyways, he was dubbed sticky because he was a sticky chick yesterday and had his wing glued to his head. He had zipped about half way and...

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Moved the hatched babies to the brooder. This one is an explorer and keeps checking out the other big chicks outside the brooder. All 3 hatched from my brown layer but he's the only black one. The other 2 are yellow. I believe my new rooster finally started doing his job after I moved out the...

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Out of 32 only 12 made it to lock down. Coming to the end of day 21 for the chicken eggs and out of 6, 2 have made it out after 32 hours. 1 has pipped and it's been 12 hours. I put him in a carton very quickly because the other 2 where playing soccer with him. Day 26 for the ducks and only 6...

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Thank you. He looks a little more swollen than any others I've had hatch. His vent is open and I don't see any raw spots. Just looks very stretched on his belly. And his navel cord is a little red but not bleeding.

Does this look like yolk absorption or messy chick disease? Any help would be great. Hatched this morning about 9am and it's almost 1 and still swollen.

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

So to go with the 20 something eggs still in the bator my husband brought me home 10 red sex links! And he said he ordered a couple of white leghorns and New Hampshire reds (I think is what he said)! So I had to get started on a bigger brooder. I had some old plywood laying around so made a 4x4...

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Day 6 I couldn't help myself so I candled. Out of 32 I have 21 left. 1 duck egg that had a crack I tried to mend with wax was a blood ring, 3 blood ring chick eggs. The rest was clears, which was from my leghorn. The rest have great veining except maybe 1 or 2 they are iffy. I can't tell if they...

The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

I hope this is ok to post here since its for my first batch of eggs that are a few days ahead of my EHAL. But it could affect my EAHL so I thought I'd ask. I set some eggs a week ago and when I went to candle the eggs half of my leghorn ones where clear. I only have one Roo and 2 hens in...
