Totals are: 9 silkies/14 set/2 clears; lf eggs: 12 chicks/36 set/15 clears/2 died after pip. 21 chick total.

9 chicks hatched. 2 more pips. It's been a good day. Hopefully some more will hatch tomorrow. 6 silkies and 3 BY mix. Has anyone had yellow silkie chicks with black spots on head and back hatch? What color do they turn out to be?

I have 4 or 5 pips! Tomorrow we should have chicks!

Not crazy. I have driven 3 hours one way for hatching eggs.

Candled tonight. Set aside 6 quitters, will recandle again tomorrow night just to make sure. Down to 33.

Removed my clears last night. Left 3 question mark eggs but I am pretty sure they will be taken out in 3 days. Down to 36 developing and 3 iffy eggs.

Does it work well? Chicks don't get stuck in it?

It is definitely harder to watch chicks moving pipped eggs around the bator. I think I am going to look for little plastic baskets or something to put eggs in when they hatch and line them with paper towel or matting of some sort.

Did a quick candle on a sampling of my silkie eggs tonight. Most are developing, even the eggs collected on Feb 23.

I set 50 eggs. 36 for a friend (orps/leghorns/rir) and 14 of my silkies!
