set 41 eggs, 17 made it to lock down. 6 hatched. I opened the 4 of mine that were still in the incubator. 2 were infertile, & the other 2 had fully formed chicks that had died. There are still 7 more eggs in the incubator, but I don't think they will do anything. If I'm wrong I'll update this...
Out of 41 eggs set, only 17 made it to lockdown & I'm not sure that all of those are good. The good news is that as I was moving them out of the turner I heard chirping!
I set 41 eggs. 2 araucana eggs, 8 copper maran eggs, & some backyard mixes from a friend who asked me to incubate for her. For me I set 23 Black Penedesenca eggs.
We are going to be picking up 2 kittens tomorrow. Do you have any experience with introducing kittens to chickens? I am thinking do it while the kittens are young so the chickens are bigger and can teach the kittens not to mess with them, but I don't know if that is the best approach or not...
I've read somewhere that someone used "hot hands" to keep the temps up on eggs when they lost power. If you can get out before the storm you can pick some up at the store. They make them for hands and for feet.
a friend asked me, just tonight, when I will be hatching eggs again. She wants me to hatch some of hers for her, so I'll be adding those to my HAL eggs.
I am hoping to have some of my own Black Penedesenca eggs to hatch for the HAL. But currently only 1 of the 2 pullets is laying. They both were for a while, but when I had to move one of the pullet/cockerel pair, the pullet quit laying. She had been laying for a couple of months! I think her...
