    Well, I've never managed to scorch anything with a bulb under 100 watts (not that I've tried very hard), while I've achieved that many times by accident with 250-watt heat lamps. I doubt you'll find that a 45-watt bulb has much potential for drama. Robert

    The chicks need supplemental heat, so don't turn that off! There's no fire hazard unless your setup is extravagantly unsafe. Sadly, many are. With only a few chicks, the most straightforward thing to do is to realize that you don't need much heat at all, and that non-scary, not-very-powerful...
