A covey as in a group /flock of quail... You don't need makes for eggs but have too many boys or insufficient hens will stress hens being mated -

Happy quails make eggs....if the covey is in good standing as in ratio with males and stress levels low and proper diet and lighting is provided they will lay again .just like other poultry any stress may put a dent on egg production .make your little gals happy .i noticed mine would stop laying...
