I just read your other thread, and commented on maybe the neighbor boy is taking your eggs.
I've read that music improves egg production. Why not, music is therapeutic in so many ways for many species. I should put a radio in my coop.
But I doubt that a radio will scare the kid away. He'll...

Interesting stuff, thanks for the link. I read the whole thread, and followed the link to the treat chart.
She has some very nice suggestions for chicken treats, but it will be a cold day in Hades before I buy lobster for the chickens. If I buy any, I'm eating it myself. I'm not a...

Skeeter, I just got one a couple of days ago at Walmart, I'm sure just about any big store would have them, Target, K-Mart, Lowe's, Home dept, and others. I got an inexpensive analog timer for around $6.54, something like that. They carry cheaper ones, but they're out, probably a big...
Back to the feed part of what might be the problem. 14% is low for a layer ration, I wouldn't feed that to layers at all. 16% is really the lowest protein I'd ever feed layers. That's what I feed in the summer when I have a lot of broodies not laying anyway, and there's a lot of bugs and whatnot...
It wouldn't hurt a thing to increase protein to 18%, next time you buy feed.
I'm curious about the molting with the older hens. Did they already molt this year and regrow feathers? If they did, sometimes they can still be growing small "undercoat" feathers, and you just wouldn't see it. They...
The ones that hatched this year may not have started laying yet. You didn't say how old they actually are, or what breed(s) they are. Early maturing breeds may start laying at 20-25 weeks old. Slower maturing breeds may take anywhere from 5 months to nearly a year.
I don't understand why, in...
Very few guinea hens are daily layers. Most are seasonal layers, mostly in the spring and early summer, though they may lay a few eggs the rest of the year. Chickens don't always lay daily, either. Some high production breeds do, but it's not something you can really expect.
It's also molting...
