Well I’m going to call myself extremely fortunate that my 2 almost 8 week olds both appeared to have passed their quack test❣️.
The large white Pekin hatch mate sported a slight eye stripe and some point colors when duckling but was all white by 5 weeks. He of course is a drake and will be...
My 8 week old Saxony pair Hansel and Gretel following Pekin of same incubation age. They are almost as big as the Pekin. They gobble down all the little fish they can find in the pond now.
Below is my molting drake Herman with his girls Hilda and Helga. They are 15 months old now. Hilda and...
Hi, just wondering where in Canada you are. I have family in Quebec.
Anyway, I heard from our local 4-H leader that they will be looking to import some new quality Saxony breeders to increase our odds of producing more Quality Saxony ducklings next spring.
Pekin. They were fathered by my Pekin drakes that were sent to 4-H Farm earlier this spring. I’m only keeping 1-2 Saxony drakes now for focused breeding. I still have my Pekin and mixed Saxony / Appleyard girls to keep Herman company. I only have 1 Pure Saxony female left.
I am so happy for you. I just arrived in Colorado Springs to pick up my grandchildren for summer vacay / surf camp. Wish we had time to come and see that adorable duckling.
You must be very excited to have a dark phase. Please continue to post pics as they develop. My 2 purebreds are now about...
Yes, it is difficult to find Saxony ducks in most areas. In the last year I’ve been able to spark and sponsor interest in the breed here on the Florida SpaceCoast through the 4-H program. I have only one purebred Breeding pair right now having lost 5 to botulism last summer.
Of all the...
Anyone get any new Saxony ducks yet?
I’m waiting to see what comes out of a neighbors incubator next month. Also expecting hatches from a couple 4-H club Saxony projects we donated to.
Has anyone supported / worked with their local 4-H clubs to try and support additional Saxony breeding programs?
Thank you for your responses.
Helga is very sweet but her temperament is a bit more reserved than Hilda’s. She’s a solid layer and her eggs are a much whiter than Hilda’s.
I will check into with Metzer Farms too.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will try check out that thread.
I wondered about that spotted girl. I gotten them all together from the local 4-H breeders. Along with the Saxonies , they also bred Appleyards. She could be a mix too.
Hi,
Want to keep this thread going. Learned so much about this beautiful breed by reading this post.
Pictures of my drake Herman and his two ladies Hilda and Helga follow. The ladies just started laying a month ago.
They are all 7-8 months old.
I lost 3 of my Saxony ducks late summer due to...
Hello,
I lost 3 Saxony ducks a few months ago . I have been searching for more females ever since with no luck yet.
I have one drake and 2 hens left.
Anyone have any info on best way to locate some. I’d prefer not to have them shipped. I am located near Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
