In short i had a fox attack my broody pen ... i lost 6 silver laced wyandottes and my breeding pair of saxony along with 14 eggs the wyandottes were sitting on that were due to hatch christmas day !!! 1 egg survived which has since hatched but has since died for another reason !! 2 nites later...

With sadness i report i lost my mating pair of saxony but my single offspring survived !!!!

He has just started getting his colour ... i want to breed another 6 hens and then i will be happy !!!

So my lil duckling is a boy by the looks of it ... i have tried to upload a picture but the site isnt letting me !!!

So i put 3 eggs each under 2 broody hens .. checked on day 20 ... 3 eggs were clear .. 3 were viable and active .. hatched out 2 but 1 died for unknown reason and still waiting to see if 3rd egg will hatch ... currently on day 28 !!

I am on day 26 of hatching more saxonys and i just found a fresh duckling ... i saw a piece of egg so had a better look ... still very wet so must be only couple of hours old at best !!!

Yeah i weighed 2 eggs the other nite and both were over 80 grams !! I will steal the wifes kitchen scales and see if i can weigh her !!!

I dont know ... i couldnt get a correct reading when they wont stay still long enough ... i thought the weight of the eggs was easier and less stressful for them

I have a weird question ... i am trying to identify if i own standard saxony or bantam saxony ... so could anyone tell me what weight bantam eggs are and what weight standard saxony eggs are ???

Moved to a more secure pen with some week old chicks ... so far so good !!!

They were free actually ... a young girl was giving them away ... the duckling was hatched under a silver laced wyandotte .... i will post a picture tomorrow sometime ... i have only had them a short time so i started collecting the eggs as soon as i could .. i was over zealous i think ... of...
