    Saxony Duck Thread!

I have Saxony and WH. The Saxony are generally pretty quiet except when they get excited, like by treats or newly filled water tubs. They're way quieter than the WH, that's for sure.

    Saxony Duck Thread!

I’ve been having lots of difficulties hatching duck eggs but I have managed to hatch 3 Saxony and 4 WH so far. I also have a broody Saxony on a nest. It’s actually her second nest as she let a chicken chase her off the first one just days before hatch. There were only two viable ones but they...

Surprisingly I don’t have any recent photos. Here’s some from January, they haven’t really changed much since then.

    Saxony Duck Thread!

I'm planning on incubating my duck eggs this year. This will be my first year doing duck eggs so I'm pretty excited about that. Though I have WH and Saxony and currently they are all together so there's a high chance of mixes. I may or may not separate by breed. If the drakes don't fight too...

    Saxony Duck Thread!

I've only had mine for 12 weeks but so far they are very calm. They get noisy in the morning when they want their meal worms and at night when I clean and refill their buckets but that's just from excitement. Not sure how smart they are but they learn quickly. It only took them a few days to...

    Saxony Duck Thread!

Hard to believe the ducklings are only 12 weeks old. They are so big. They are starting to go through their first molt and the two boys are starting to get their grey heads.

All mine seem to have the same colored bill so I didn’t know there was a difference. What am I missing?

    Saxony Duck Thread!

Ducklings are 8 weeks now and finally going out the pop door on their own. I've been having to herd them to get them out of the coop. Dark phase is a girl! I'm so glad too because I didn't want to have to decide between it and a regular colored male. One of the reasons I went with Saxony...

    Saxony Duck Thread!

I’ve got some updated pictures. They will be 5 weeks on Tuesday. They’re much harder to wrangle and photograph now so here are a few photos that aren’t blurry. Here’s a full body of the dark phase one. I think I heard it quacking but hard to tell in a group of 12 ducklings. The...

I thought about that too so looked them up. In the pictures I’ve seen they look much darker. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I’ll post updated photos.

    Saxony Duck Thread!

Yeah they wrote on the top of the box that it was a dark phase Saxony. It's also listed on this Veterinary Services 9-3 form they sent me as a Saxony. They don't breed Rouen either. I will get some better picture of it later. Maybe next one of the others for comparison.

    Saxony Duck Thread!

It does kind of but they don't breed Mallards so I'm sure it's not that. I don't think Holderreads would do that anyway. I'd never heard of it either and I'd done a lot of research before getting them. I guess I just have to wait and see what it looks like grown. Hopefully it's a female. :fl

    Saxony Duck Thread!

Hello Saxony owners. I just received my first Saxony ducklings (along with some WH) from Holderreads! I'm really looking forward to raising this breed. As a bonus they sent me a dark phase Saxony. I was wondering if any of you knew what it would grow to look like. I tried a google search but...
