Excessive handling is a major cause of failures.

Anyone else setting today or tomorrow for the Zodiac HAL?

Even if the shavings were a mix of cedar and pine or just...
The NYD HAL kind of snuck up on me because I wasn't planning on joining but I had some eggs from birds I really needed to hatch so I set late.
I have 2 jumbos due in about 5 hours and 5 more due much later this evening.
No signs of life yet but I did get them in pedigree boxes yesterday and...
That's because cleaning up poop IS all you're doing.
How did that happen?
If it isn't yet at day 21, I'd put a piece of plastic wrap over it and the liquid skin to seal.
Likely the membrane is completely dried out by now anyway.
I appreciate everyone's input and being enamored with the pipping/zipping process - but why?
By day 20+, there isn't anything you can actually do. The birds hatch or they don't. They all won't hatch in most cases. The weak ones probably shouldn't hatch.
I recommend, if you have embryos full...
I shipped eggs to Puerto Rico. We believe they were X-rayed. There were several deformities and only 3 hatched. 2 boys and a girl.
Bummer.
Next time I'm sending him day old chicks.
Welcome.
So accidentally you joined the NYD HAL. I've done that.
Probably only southern hemisphere people with...
Thanks. I'm glad I opted for the premier.
I fought buying them for a long time because I thought they were pricey. But I think it was you and bamadude that convinced me to take another look at them.
I did the math, comparing electricity used with that in my big Ohio brooders. I realized I would...
I add a probiotic powder to chicks first water. Chicks raised by mother hens will get probiotics from her feces. Hen raised chicks don't get pasted vent and mine haven't had it in the last 3 years since I've been doing it.
The probiotics I add is Gro2Max.

Lots of different ways. I try to think how a hen does it or how a big commercial hatchery does it. Neither draw circles.
I think it was Ron that suggested some years ago that he lets the egg roll and the heavy side goes down. That's the way I do it. That way the bulk of the air cell will be on...
I don't candle except about day 14 to make sure something is growing. Mostly because I can see little or nothing inside the eggs. I certainly don't look at air cell size. I don't even own a hygrometer. I do have a gram scale so I weigh eggs instead, I put a little water in when I set and again...
They hadn't been turned the whole time?
Good points.
I once had a batch of eggs and the incubator kept swinging from 92 to 108. I gave up on them at about day 6 and put more eggs under a broody hen.
I didn't pull the eggs nor turn off the incubator. I was in the cellar and heard a bunch of...
I started a new Hatch-a-Long for hatching by the moon. This will run throughout 2017.

Some of the cooking sites or some of the duck hatcheries have several.

My favorite present is a book my daughter gave me.
'Why did the Chicken Cross the World" by Andrew Lawler.
The Epic Saga of the Bird that Powers Civilization.
Gorgeous egg. Worth the wait.
Remove the turner the night before and if you're happy with the weight loss/air cells, go ahead and start raising humidity.
I wish I could see movement. I can barely see air cells. Eggs are just too dark. I don't remove anything not leaking or stinking until...
