They're not my birds and I'm sure I would have been as frustrated as you...but I see it more as a positive rather than a negative. When someone asks why you're breeding this hybrid, you'll have all the facts and data to show them at your finger tips. Plus you'll have hard data for cost analogies...
That very sweet that your Dad is managing your flock for you. It sounds like he's having fun...lol!
Sometimes family don't understand...my side is still asking and wondering what the heck I'm doing. But like you I'm forging ahead regardless...lol.
Whether this cross is an Orp or RIR...
Quite a difference!
Do you think that there will be any further development on the Orphington cross where it could show more meatiness at a slightly older age?
Agree wholeheartedly. What's wrong are people who have the mindset to take advantage of any situation that they might benefit!
In November I just read a thread of local folks discussing a problem about people in our closest city and surrounding area using the obituaries to take advantage to...
X 2!
Agreed. These little birds grab onto our hearts. We're here hoping you find pocket. I'm sure many of us have been there too!
X 2 as well! I've had both chicks and keets go missing for half and full days. Hoping for the best!
It's interesting you mentioned about who might have known eldonrgv was away...hubby and I were talking about it after we dropped our steer off this morning and how awful this would have been...and hubby thought almost the same thing. Basically that someone must be watching and waiting or knew...
I'm with the rest @eldonrgv...what a completely awful situation to come home to, especially all you birds.
Great job of looking ahead...that dark Cornish certainly does stand out! It'll be interesting to see the chicks from him and those girls. That's quite a thing about your sportsman...I...
Those are awesome pics! Your brooders are very open. In the top pic, what are the chicks standing on? It almost looks like hemp fiber matting or the jute back on jute back carpeting. It looks excellent for traction for the chicks legs!
So far, I've started my chicks in a box on paper...
I'm happy to hear things are looking better! Hopefully there'll be lots of zipping and hatching.
Fingers crossed!
The chicks are having tea? That's so cute!!!
I use regular shavings in the coop and the brooder, both are vented. I was incredibly surprised to have an OEGB chick showing what I was thought were allergy signs when they went from the indoor brooder on paper towels to an enclosed (although well vented) plastic container with shavings for...
Thank you for the update. I'm hoping all is ok with your eggs.
I'm sorry to hear about the 4 young chicks. I was hoping that your older chicks would be ok.
I made a HUGE oops during the Halloween HAL...
@eldonrgv If your power hasn't come on yet, and you have no inverters or generator....IF you have several boxes...smaller ones would be better...I'd place your chicks in the boxes for the time being like hatcheries do. I'll keep them warmer and possibly keep them from crushing the weaker...
