We had to tweak that house a bit. Seems the A-frame didn't give her enough head room to turn around so we cut off the peak so it's open somewhat. I'll have to take pics of it soon. She isn't laying just yet, but there is a plastic egg in it and it's ready for her. Guess we'll have to wait a bit...
Thought about painting it, but it's so cold, no way to do it outside at the moment. Now, let's see what she does with it. If it's too tight (maybe her bottom is wider or she's taller than we think, LOL), we can give it a "crew cut" and cut the top out to give her a tad more space. Still, no...
Well, after coming up with an idea using some of our scraps from a log home building site and our other projects, I told my DH and he's making it for me. It's just glued, but will have thin screws put in and then the back will be screwed into the wall a foot or two up off the floor. Seems like...

I actually had that thought, a large coffee can. Might have to see if she will fit okay in one tomorrow. Lord knows I have lots of the plastic ones and metal ones as well!
Christine, thanks so much. If you are able, sure, I'd love to see a picture, but dont go to any trouble. I do have a small plastic shoebox on the porch with some gloves in it. That could work.
Aw, she sounds adorable. Poor Shadow is sounding a bit hormonal now, so I think she may lay very soon. I may be able to close off something for her, poor little thing.
Thanks, ironjerry. I have milk crates that are 12" square, but maybe I can do something to close off the front more than the board across the bottom that keeps the nesting material and eggs from falling out. Maybe close in the sides a bit, I mean. Shadow is so tiny and my goofy girls always want...
I have 9 nests in my main layers coop. Even though they mostly like to use 3 of those and there are plenty of empties, my only bantam, Shadow, is 30 weeks old, extra small, and hasn't started laying yet. She get chased away from everything and on occasion, run over, poor little girl, though she...
