Can you get a photo? The brass piece that is on the inside has to be screwed into the spigot on the outside. All the washers (plastic and metal) are for sealing the opening and stability.

Correct! You can skip that part :) We picked up our second Igloo in Walmart for like $20. I haven't seen them in TSC yet, but I haven't been looking either. They also may have them in Lowes and Home Depot. Amazon might also be an option :) Good luck on your build!

Build photos! Wrap the threads with teflon tape. This is where you put the grommet type washer on. Make sure to use the food safe petroleum gel to lube inside the grommet and around the outside of the fitting shown here. One of the previously pictured gaskets weren't used...

Maybe some hardware cloth fashioned into a cone shape? I keep mine outside of the coop for filling and cleaning purposes so I haven't considered out to keep them off of it Good notes on the back up waterers in the heat. I hadn't considered that at all last year and suppose I'm lucky mine...

After one summer with it already, I don't ever want to NOT use one. Just the fact that it'll hold 5 gallons so I don't have to be in constant worry of them running out of water during the day is worth it enough for me. We're actually probably gonna put the regular ol' brew bucket out in the...

I think the only reason for going with the 3/8 size is that it was recommended in that link for the parts list. Maybe it was a typo, since 3/4 is gonna be pretty large in comparison. Did you take apart the cooler spigot and check? Honestly, with the latest one all put together, it's a good seal...

I'd love to see that design in action! I live in a semi-warm area (warmer than the majority of the US anyway ) so freezing is a concern, but not a daily one. I haven't really resolved that aspect with the pvc section because the heat would need to be applied to the cups instead of the cooler.

    Igloo Cooler Waterer - Discuss!

I've already created a version of a cooler waterer and posted an article on it here. The topic of this kind of waterer came up in another thread and instead of derailing that one, we want to bring that discussion somewhere where more know about it and can get involved with ideas and...
