New keets, hints for first time

That is still wood chips. I know of people that use the wood chips but cover them with paper towels or newspapers. I have personally witnessed keets eating paper towels so that is not my preference.

New keets, hints for first time

Yeah that's not a good sign. It is recommended to not put keets on wood chips until they are at least 2 weeks old. They can and will eat them and cannot digest them without having grit available. Giving them crumbled hard boiled egg is fine but will not increase the protein level since hard...

New keets, hints for first time

It is basically an Old Wive's tale that has gotten repeated so often that people don't question it. I was personally guilty of repeating it until I actually looked up the protein level of hard boiled eggs. It is a good idea to feed the keets hard boiled eggs because it has so many other...

New keets, hints for first time

When measuring the temperature in a brooder, it needs to be measured at the bedding level. If you are measuring the air temperature it will be far too hot at the bedding level where the keets are. The brooder should not be kept at the same temperature in the whole brooder. If you are using a...

New keets, hints for first time

I use warm water the first time the keets are put in the brooder. After that I just fill the water container straight out of the hydrant. I would not put a heat source over the water. Food and water should be out of the heated part of the brooder. The keets need the ability to freely go...
