    Some sand is too small, that is true. Which is why I won't use anything but the paver type. And actually was told here to use that for my younger birds. I do put actual grit out but they barely if ever use it. They get most of it from the sand and the yard here.

    A pitchfork with hardware cloth over it works well for a litter scoop too. My coop has solid floor and sand just works out well for us. We do use paver sand and not play sand. The paver sand is not as fine and is great as grit for them too. So has dual purpose.

    I use sand in chicken coop with Ag lime, must be Ag lime. If you read bag it is crushed limestone and calcium carbonate. In my duck house which I use straw in it works wonders. And my chickens love to hang in duck coop scouring thru straw and eating the lime for extra calcium...won't hardly...
