Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Ah, the little RIR has been up and down. I am about to switch all the water to regular (non-medicated) I think. Everyone else is ok (I think!) and I'm worried about dehydration too if some don't like the Corid. But the RIR was down in the coop this morning. Maybe she got trampled as the others...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Thanks for the suggestion. It's thundering outside and may rain again. So I won't be stopping today at any rate. I'll give that chick direct doses. And hold off on the vitamins just yet. I'm also thinking to wait an extra couple of days to re-dip the legs for mites. Being oily on the feathers...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Today (in the afternoon) is three days they've been on Corid-treated water. The ones that recovered seem fine, except that week-old (now 11 days) RIR still fans the wings just a few millimeters lower than really tight, and she was peeping because she was ready to go to sleep about an hour...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Looking good today. Everyone looks fine, active, eating, and I saw almost all drink within a few minutes' time (and they have water 24/7 so they just almost all happened to drink while I was there). The tiniest RIR is holding her wings maybe a few mm fanned down but she's actively digging up...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Well the Wyandotte died. It might be my fault - I had to run an errand, and I left the box in the garage. It's a hot day, so I had already turned off the lamp, and had air circulating out there. Maybe it was too hot while I was gone. But then the other one did the same ... looked a little better...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

:) I don't mind sharing btw, but I'm sure you'd get better answers and make things less confusing for folks who might want to help. But I'm too new to want to be suggesting that. Thanks, Casportpony. :) And I hope your hens get better, aliren!

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

We are seeing improvement at any rate. I had 4 or so separated for treatment yesterday who are now in the run, chasing bugs, peeping, scratching, climbing on the mamas, running in and out of the coop (it's raised so the ramp is long and an exercise itself). Both mamas WOULD choose today to...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Thank SO MUCH for the additional info. Given that most are improving, and all of the factors, I did think the treatment I am doing is reasonable. I'm thankful I'm able to watch them closely.

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

I appreciate the info. I'll give them a call. And if I had neighbors with chickens, it would be a completely different scenario. There are none. But I wouldn't be subjecting someone else's birds to sickness. I should also say these are not really "my" chickens in that I'm not the one to make...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Oh, and another silly question. Undiluted Corid? Mine is a powder (for calves)? I'm not sure if you're talking about the same thing.

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Thank you so much. That makes sense. I'm glad I'm posting everything here, since I have no idea. I wondered what sort of action Corid used if not an antibiotic. Good to know. I have a little syringe, and was trying to decide what point was worth risking giving dose directly. I've never given a...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

The week-old RIR died during the night. Most of the others burst out of the coop and are acting very normal. The month old Wyandotte (my last one) is not doing great. SLIGHTLY better than yesterday. She managed to go in out of the coop by herself. I'm not convinced she will drink much so I...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Btw, their poop looks like the first one, brown, a bit foamy, at this page http://thefarmerslamp.com/coccidiosis-in-poultry/

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Btw thanks for the info re:vitamin B. I need to get that back into them. So young, they don't need to be deficient. I'm wondering if Rooster Booster mixed with mashed boiled egg will help them.

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

I've thought about it. I'd want more info first. I want to be sure no one is going to want to destroy even healthy ones. And cost would be an issue. I've been dealing with medical treatments that have kept me essentially out of work for a year, and my husband has lost a lot of hours with all the...

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

I literally know almost nothing about chicken illnesses. Nursed plenty of injured ones, dealt with a few parasites, (leg mites and gapeworms), but have not dealt with actual illness really. Their stools (those in the box) were runny, and there was a more brownish-reddish color than normal. I...

How cool! Well if I get down I'd like to at least come check it out. I don't know of anything like that near me. Thanks!

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Well the little Wyandotte seemed to rebound, but then weakened again. She died. :( Almost all of the others are looking near-normal. All are back in the run/coop with mamas. I'm watching my last remaining Wyandotte (month old) who is still a bit lethargic, but picking at the ground, walking...

About half an hour from Pensacola. Not really close, I get down to Ocala every once in awhile. :)

Sickness spreading among chicks? Please help!

Ah, thanks. I will discard and remix the coop's water then. I added RoosterBooster out there. I'll go with just Corid, and see if I can mix the RoosterBooster with food or something.
