    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

I will have to find a picture. I have some on my camera, not the phone. The only Buff Orpingtons i have now are just under 6 months, and still filling out. I breed with many things in mind. For my dual purpose birds, yes, weight is a factor, though it takes forever in Orpingtons. Since I...

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

My Buff Orpingtons are 15 lbs. for males, and 13 lbs. for females. I have not seen English birds close to that. So if an American bird was heavier and had more size, you still prefer English?

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

You said the English type was hrftier than the American birds. How much do the English birds weigh? I have not seen English birds that weigh what a well bred American bird weighs. The English birds tend to have more fluff, and may appear larger. The English birds i had were much smaller than...

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

I do show in APA shows, and had a Buff Orpington cock that was Champion English twice. I don't throw off on hatchery birds, because some are not bad. Just because a bird comes from a breeder does not automatically make it a quality bird. To me, you never know where you will find a good bird...

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

I thought about buying a Standard From the UK, but it was more than I wanted to pay just for curiosity. I am not trying to be hard on anything. I just tend to speak matter of fact. I am not sure what the goal was when people imported Orpingtons into the US. They may not have wanted birds...

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

My understanding is that in the UK, the birds look almost petfectly round. There are pictures in various places that show this. It is tough going from one picture, but the bird in the picture does not have a perfectly round outline. Honestly, she does look closer to the UK standard than any...

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

No matter which way you go, it will take many years to get there. You could import birds from the UK, and hope you get good type and size, and put an emphasis on type and size each generation. The alternative is to find a large line of American birds, like the Clevengers, and select for the...

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

In your original post in this thread, you asked opinions on how to breed towards birds that look more like the German standard, and do not fit the English (Poultry Club of Great Britain) standards. Now you say you want birds to match the English standard. The easiest way would be to import...

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

So, you are wanting to take English Buff Orpingtons, that do not have English type, and breed them to match the German standard? How do you feel this is an improvement? I thought you said you prefer the English type? Just curious, have you seen any well bred American Buff Orpingtons?

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

Just curious, do you like birds need to the PCGB standard or the German standard? You said you liked the former, but showed pictures of the latter saying you like that. They are different.

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

Just curious, where was the video made? The birds don't look like the English standard. Are they German?

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

You like the looks of the birds that meet the UK standard, or the birds that were imported into the US? There is a difference.

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

I have not seen the English type on any Orpinton in the US. Some are closer than others. I would not say Buffs are the farthest from that. Then again, why are you wanting English type?

    Improving English Buff Orpingtons

If you want a large bird of english type, you have two main challenges. Very few, if any, Orpingtons in the US actually have the english type. I have American type Buff Orpingtons, and had a cock that weighed 15 lbs. Is that still too small?
