We only have one small 40 watt light in our coop of 30-40 hens. It is helping a great deal. November we were down to 0 a day. For a couple weeks. None! I added the light, and they have been giving us eggs everyday. 23 yesterday.
You can, buy usually people don't. The risk of bacteria getting into the egg is much greater because the shell is not thick. I have got a few of those over the years. I cook them up and give them to the dog.
Thanks for the advice on the scales. We have a harbor freight near. I will get a scale soon. We had 13 eggs when my daughter checked them at 11am. Headed out to see how many more.
