Seven! Most of mine are done molting and back in lay now, so the added light is getting them back in gear. Even Wingsy (who doesn't seem to lay often even when technically in lay) was checking out a nest the other day.
Responded to this thread yesterday, but then I fell asleep and forgot to add my egg count. 🤣
I got two eggs from twelve hens. I think there's only a few who could possibly be laying at this point, so it's probably closer to two eggs from maximum four or five hens. lol
Too funny! I'm definitely glad that they don't melt rather than molt, because that would be far more horrifying!
Some of them sure look as if they are melting at certain points. lol
I do have some pictures. I'll see if I can find and post them at some point during this week.
I think I have a picture of Squeaky somewhere, from her molt last year. At one point, she was completely bald on her stomach aside from all the new feathers coming in. I felt so bad for her!
That's so...
Agreed! They always look so sick, too, especially when they have a heavier molt. I've had so many health issues already that it always gets me worried... before I notice the feathers falling everywhere. They really do have the worst timing for it, too!
Snowball seems to be going slightly...
Two eggs today. I have more chickens visibly in molt, so I am not surprised by that. lol
They all look so unwell at the moment and I will be very relieved when they are done molting!
Three eggs yesterday. Four eggs on the night before that. Most of mine are still molting or finishing up molt. I'm pretty sure Grumpy is back to laying daily or every other day, at least, as I see her in the nest box fairly consistently.
I got three eggs today.
One is cracked on the end, though. They managed to kick the bedding out of that box, then laid the egg directly on the bottom with no cushioning. At least, that's what it looks like happened. Chickens. lol
I got one egg today. I'm not at all surprised, because well over half of my flock is either finishing up molting, in the middle of molting, or about to molt. Fewer daylight hours definitely doesn't help either. 😂
I got five eggs, but only three were usable. One was broken in the nest box, and another has a crack in it, so that one will go to my puppy or to the chickens.
Four eggs from twelve hens. Many are currently in various stages of molting at the moment. They are not enjoying being kept in their covered run for most of the day either, but better temporary confinement than another hawk incident. They will definitely be happier once I'm able to get hawk...
Six out of twelve last night.
One of them was Uni's egg. I'm not sure how she's actually laying at all since her feathers are falling out by the handful and she looks like a porcupine from certain angles as she's molting. :lau
