I think I've read of others using them, but I haven't. I personally don't bother with the red bulb. Chicks start pecking each other because of boredom, crowding or too much heat, and I don't find the white lights to be a problem.

Are you using a 250 watt bulb? They are too hot. I prefer a 125 watt bulb. The heat from them is more reasonable.
