Don't post on here often but your stories make me so mad!! My own story in Fannin County was a pit bull that routinely broke through my fence to visit my dogs. She really was ok but it was a matter of time before she got to the birds who free range IN MY FENCED YARD. Fenced because another...
They probably know from movement or noise? Perhaps not at an early stage. My hen, on the other hand, sat for 32 days on duds. I finally replaced two eggs with live chicks. She was thrilled.
Hope you don't mind my 2 cents. I wouldn't dispose of them if she leaves for a day or so. She may come back and they may still be viable. That is what I have seen and most recently with my turkey hen. She sat for nearly a week, I think, went off for a couple of days and returned. She got a 100%...
Me again. I'm wondering why the predators wouldn't have gone after a real meal like the turkeys who are slower than the chickens. I believe the roo got caught trying to save his favorite girl.
Don't you think that given the number of birds lost in a short amount of time it would have been a pack? I think I heard a fox the other day. Could one fox take down 6 birds? This is my first major loss from predators.
Walked the dogs today and when I returned there were 3 turkey babies, one chick a rooster and his girlfriend a buff orpington gone. That's almost half my flock. At first I thought a hawk got the babies but realize with the adults it must be a pack of coyotes to get that many. No more walks for...
Hi there. I am attaching a picture of a chicken palace I plan to buy from a guy in Cedartown who makes them. His website is Davids coops.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had purchased one and how you like it. Also, wondered if anyone thinks its a problem that the whole bottom is open and the...
Thanks katsdar. That's what I've done. Depending on later reports I may sleep in the basement tonight. Following this we are supposed to get snow! I am tired of weather.
Anyone concerned about this storm coming in? I see conflicting reports with 70mph winds then 40mph winds here. My humble coop is a lean to against the garage with hardwire on 3 sides. I have tarps over all of that. Was planning on leaving one side open since it will be warmish tonight, but have...
That is quite a story!!! So glad you were able to intervene. My experience is that dogs will eat the heads off and leave the rest. Lots of other animals get the blame. After a snake got in and ate a chick I got hardwire. I've also got most of the property fenced in with 2 dog guards.
Good luck.
I relate about the thyroid. One of my childhood memories was me clinging to a huge gas heater and hugging it to get warm. Later "my spot" in the house was on the floor on the heat vent.
Truly it's heartbreaking. The little turkey tried his dad who refused so it tried a plump chicken who wanted nothing to do with him. I'd keep him warm if he wouldn't become hysterical.
