    Try grapes, chopped up cherry tomatoes, yellow wood sorrel you can find in your yard for free, grass seed heads from your yard, a little bit of grass clippings, etc.etc. Those are all things mine love.

    I use wheat straw and that works really well. Keeps things pretty dry, its cheap and they like to pick the scraps of seed heads when its fresh straw. And we keep all the used straw in a compost pile we will till into the garden this fall.

    Find the nearest mudhole where the flies are getting their moisture and sprinkle a gallon worth of activated lime powder on it (or less if its really small). If you have any septic leaks or ponds, etc., then dust them too. That works really well for driving off flies.
