OMG I hear the same thing all of the time...I spend hours scrubbing and hauling waterers, feeders, scooping poop and cleaning up messes from problems like you described all the while trying not to trip over little feather fluffs and of course being 'helped' the whole way. But somehow he thinks...
I've had both dry and wet pox in my flock. It is initially transmitted by mosquitos, but once your chickens have it it is easily spread between chickens.
Betadine is key for treating both -

I must admit, I want a goat. I grew up with Nubian goats and the odd pygmy, and miss them.....but that would probably be over the top for our .7 acre piece of property which is already loaded with ponds, tiki bar, outbuildings, raised walkways and a huge enclosed chicken run. Oh yeah, and a house.
