Not all beans are toxic there are lists here somewhere. With mung and lentil they are fine just soaked, but sprouting gets you more nutrition.

My cat refuses to eat anything he kills which I feel is a good thing as I don't need to use his revolution stuff as often for its deworming aspects.

Not to mention you are always adding inputs to the system by actually providing them with feed! -edit--- if you have the space now I would not be so focused on aquaponics vs using that "wastewater" as fertilizer. But that is just me.

You can do so much with fish water, you really must research it to fully understand how NO4, NO3 breaks down via biological processes. You can grow desireable algaes or duckweeds to feed your flock from those as well. Not to mention the particulate manuer you could extract from a water fowl...

Our major source of compost are coffee grounds so it probably helps our chicken get their morning caffiene too! One can hope as they aren't the happiest of ladies when they wake up! There is no argument they wake up looking stunning, but man they don't behave like they appear.

Back to the "Topic of the week" Has anyone living in the southern states built the BSFL feeder I linked, or similar? The last compost pile I exposed for my chicken really had tons of those things in it. I think the chicken even posted a 5 star rating for me on yelp.

I would just be willing to go on record as saying there is so little we truly understand regarding prion related disease processes. The common thinking was cannibalism. But you see them spreading in the wild as wasting disease in my local deer population. Deer and cannibalism just aren't all...

Since a prion is simply a misfolded protein, it is pretty hard to diagnose in non economically valuable livestock. My bet is it is more widespread than we are aware, because we don't care so much about bass or other chordates vs hunters and their deer, or ranchers and their cattle. edit-- or a...

wasting disease in deer, and jacobs-Kreutzfiled for the cows. I'm just expecting we will find that all chordates can succumb to prion related illnesses. edit---granted the two examples I am aware of are mammals.

As far as dandelions go I know they are pretty darn nutritionally complete for guinnea pigs. My wife used to have me help her collect those in summer in Hanau for our daughters pet. I probably lost more proteine to the mosquitoes where it grew than the guinea pig ever got from our efforts. One...

Guineas running off 1/2 mile away sounds like a dream. I love their looks but youtube convinced me to never keep them. Truth is if they didn't hang around the house I would be keeping them. Thanks @perchie.girl !

I have personally hit on a small patch of time where I couldn't afford chicken feed, plus food for my family and have had to improvise. Anything we could suggest might be useful to a potential keeper. edit-- thankfully they free range and mostly feed themselves!
