Yeah I have to agree with that, if having land for farming/animals is a priority. We went for a convenient location and as such paid a higher price for that convenience but there's not much usable land on this lot. I showed hubby some farms that were 30 miles further out, with less convenience...- rosemarythyme

I'm in Pacific NW. My assessed property value (land only) is a little over 50k per acre though it's impossible to actually buy anything at that price.- rosemarythyme

Definitely look into the zoning code for areas you're interested in, before you start the house search. There's so much variance between each town, each county, each state. Like I'm amazed that someone on 7 acres would be restricted to fewer than 15 chickens. I'm on a little over 4 acres...- rosemarythyme
