Yeah I'm going to do a half wall. Ether vertical, over half the opening, or horizontal. Like waist to chest high. That way there is a solid wind break for the roasts if there is any weather. But the rest will be open cause we do get some heat. Now the main focus will be on predators. Good mesh...
So I think I'm going to skip the whole wall idea and do a half wall leaving it mainly open to the run. Just saw a coop down the street and it was completely open with a little 3 sided covered section at the end.
I want to at least put a half wall up though to protect from the wind.
Any...
Thank you all for your replies and help on this. This is all new to me so any mistakes made or issues people have had are helping me out tremendously. I'm sure I'll still have a tons of my own though. ;)
Thank you all for your posts. I'm thinking of spending a little extra money on a really good skirt/predator protection, and look into the deep soil floor technique. Still in the planning phase but need to get moving as we are getting our chicks this weekend.
Haha. True, but Not too bad. Kind of weird right now though. We had 75 two weeks ago now it's 26. No clue. But usually kind of a cold winter but nothing bad. And then it'll get over 100 for a week or two in the summer.
Thank you so much. Love the coop. And the links for the skirts.
Yeah I was thinking of pavers for the floor with a cheap linoleum top for easy clean up.
Then 2x4 framed and plywood wall with door to close off the coop.
Then basically frame in the existing horse area with mesh to make a run...
Hills of Northern California. Hot summers. Cold winters. Main predator would be fox. But we also have raccoon, coyotes, mtn lion, and bear. Last two are rare though.
That being said I think I'll have to put a solid wall to inclose it.
Hello all.
I am turning a three sided old horse structure into a coop. Going to make the walls align, no cracks or openings. But I need help with ideas for the floor and best way to build the front wall for the coop.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
