Do I really have to keep chicks in brooder for 6 weeks?

I was hoping that I had a broody hen, but she isn't a constant nester. There are days she lays on the nest all day and guards it fiercely, than there are days she is out partying with the crowd. LOL

Do I really have to keep chicks in brooder for 6 weeks?

Outside of course. :lau I DO have a coop with a large run, and a large yard that the current flock free ranges in. What I was referring to as to raising them inside is the BABIES. I don't have a place to raise the CHICKS themselves, before they are able to be outside. My coop isn't big...

Do I really have to keep chicks in brooder for 6 weeks?

To each their own. I have 20 chickens and 8 ducklings in the brooder in my home, with 4 cats and 2 dogs. As long as you change the bedding on a regular basis (daily), and make sure to wash your hands, it's not a big deal. I don't have a garage or a barn or anything else to raise them in.

Do I really have to keep chicks in brooder for 6 weeks?

Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. :-) I don't mine raising my chicks in the house during the colder spring months, and letting them out when it's a tad warmer. I don't have a big enough coop to really raise them in a brooder in the coop itself at this point. My idea was not to get...

Do I really have to keep chicks in brooder for 6 weeks?

Plenty of room, as my chickens free range most of the time, and them free ranging is when they were getting attacked, not when roosting in the coop. Is that odd? I couldn't tell you if it was certain ones, as I have 15 wyndottes and they all look the same. There would be like 6-8...

Do I really have to keep chicks in brooder for 6 weeks?

These are free ranging chickens, they have 1 acre that we live on, to roam, plus 40 acres of pasture to roam. PLENTY of room.

Do I really have to keep chicks in brooder for 6 weeks?

Your not seen as being rude at all. Just a clarification though. I do know that the adults are harder to integrate. That being said, the ones I was trying to integrate were very submissive, and never tried to assert themselves, they always backed off or ran away. The other chickens would...

Do I really have to keep chicks in brooder for 6 weeks?

My chickens are inside. I have a coop with an existing flock, but there is no way to integrate them safely right now, especially after the flock tried killing some adult birds this spring that I had tried all winter to integrate. I am also in the north and our temps drop below freezing at...
