Have 2 birchen hens and 1 birchen rooster - mounts one and not the other

They do look like cochins. Some of my bantam cochin roosters favor hens. It's fairly normal for the breed in general in my experiences with them.

It just occurred to me that they can't be marans as you said the eggs were lighter in color. My guess is they are cochins or Cochin mixes. They do come in birchen, and Cochin eggs can vary from light to medium brown.

Not really, I didn't know marans came in bantam. Sorry. I guess I'm no help.

Silver birchen is still just a color, not a breed. I would guess your birds are mixed breeds so the eggs are different colors.

Are they a particular breed? Birchen is just a color. The one he doesn't mate is probably more dominant. Is her younger?

He's probably afraid of her. Some roosters just breed what is easy. I'm not too fond of those roosters. Yours will make the one bare backed pretty quickly. Even if he mated both it would be too much on them. Roosters mate a lot throughout the day.
