Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

I just wanted to update here that I have confirmed it was a fox attack. I was talking with another neighbor today and they saw a fox carrying off one of our chickens around 6am. This is literally one of the only times our coop has been open that early in the morning. I have kept the chickens...

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

Thank you all for your responses it has been very helpful. I spoke with the boy next door and he did notice the feathers this morning while waiting for the bus, they are outside by 7:45 so it must have happened at dusk, which also would explain why my dogs did not bark...they were still sound...

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

The only thing I can think of why would not have barked is if it was too early and they were still sleeping. The other thing I was thinking about is that if the attack happened where the bodies/feather piles were found only the pile of buff silkie feathers with the shell less egg would have...

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

Good to know, my neighbor monitors them with trail cameras and said late April into May is the worst time because they have babies to feed, he said he has seen the mom come with the pups and because they are so smart they knew what time he let them out and would see them coming the same time...

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

Thank you. We do have an enclosed run but they have scratched the area down to dirt and I feel bad leaving them locked up. I appreciate what you are saying but I honestly would rather not have chickens if I have to keep them locked up. I expect to lose a few here and there and am ok with that...

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

I hope they are, the other 4 are happily pecking around outside and don't seem distressed at all but I have my eye on them to make sure nothing comes back

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

I just talked to a guy down the road that has chickens to warn him and he said he would bet on a fox, he said this time of year they will kill multiple chickens, take what they can and come back to get the others to bring back for their babies. He has trail cameras set up and said he has...

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

The cats are around all the time and have never bothered with them before would it be odd for them to attack all of a sudden? Is it possible a animal in the wild killed more than they could carry? There are 3 chickens unaccounted for and feather evidence and unshelled egg of the smaller buff...

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

What type of animal does a dawn raid? I am going to check with my neighbors kids right now to see if he noticed anything waiting for the bus, their grass is high so they may not have noticed the body to the right of the driveway but there were feathers all over the driveway.

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

I would think they would if it was anything that resembled a dog, we often have stray cats in our yard and they typically do not bark at the cats. They always bark when another dog walks by though. They did not bark at the hawk attack. No there is no way it was my dogs, they are in a fenced...

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

I am also pretty sure the buff silkie was killed and eaten, the feathers were in clumps and there was a shell less egg in that pile of feathers

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

I really don't think it was a dog because my dogs would have barked, they have a doggie door and go in and out as they please and if our neighbor's dog is outside (small and never loose) they go crazy as well as dogs just passing by with their owners on leashes. I have never seen a stray dog in...

Help! Can someone please help me identify the predator that killed over 1/2 of my flock

I am hoping someone can help me identify the predator that took/killed 6 of my 10 chickens today. The coop run door was opened at 5 am this morning. About 12:45 I took a walk back to the coop to collect eggs when I noticed some feathers and a shell less egg on the ground. I recognized the...
