Actually, it reminds me of a time when we went camping with our in-laws. We were cooking bacon outside the tents. Suddenly my brother-in-law got up and started running.
We eventually realized he'd been mugged by a chicken, it had nicked his bacon out of his sandwich, yet his was trying to get it...
I think it's just because we are used to chickens being shown either eating seed or just seeing them clucking around, not the wild eating machines that love to hunt that we end up with.:D
I haven't got a good reason as such. I think I'm still getting around the misconception that chickens only eat grains and vegs. However, in the wild they'd eat meat like mice etc as caught by a Roo, but most meat bought by humans has been given antibiotics and messed with.

We put out in gravity feeders. .. pellets, mixed corn, grit and chick mash for the chicks but obviously the big hens love it too. Every day we share out either a whole brocoli or 500gm of grapes, or half a water melon, mashed potatoes with coli, broc, green beans, pears, apples, kale, spinach...
