What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

I know this is an old post but if anyone is still wondering, being in a confined space with dry ice gassing off is very dangerous to birds and other animals. For that reason, dry ice shipments are confined to a few routes and USPS won't accept animals for shipping on those routes.

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

I have the same issue. Even though mine was a landrace fowl till standardized into 4 varieties as late as the mid 1980s - sports and color variations continue to show up. As an extremely rare breed, one shouldn't expect flawless birds. If you want flawless, try white leghorns, buff orpingtons or...

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

I've encountered the same thing at Sandhill. They actually only answer the phone one afternoon each week. They never responded to my emails. I'm still not mad at them for it. I just know what to expect - though I don't buy birds from anyone any more.

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

So true. I don't know about Greenfire but Sandhill doesn't really have the infrastructure for better communication. If either did, birds would cost even more.

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

I probably posted this before but I think everyone considering purchasing should seriously consider a paragraph at the end of Greenfire's terms and conditions and take it to heart. Here it is. Read and reread. WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT. You should expect birds that reflect the fundamental...

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

If you think that is bad, try ordering from Sandhill Preservation. As a small breeder of rare chickens, I know how hard it is to accommodate customer's schedules. Add to that the horrific current condition of our postal system which further complicates. You are dealing with seasonal variations...

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

Being on a dry ice route means that your chicks would likely die enroute due to the gassing off of the dry ice as it warms. Perhaps you could find someone not too far away on a non-dry ice route you could have the chicks shipped to where you could pick them up. Where there is a will, there is...

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

Yeah, I believe the penalties for circumventing the paperwork and testing requirements of the USDA are very punitive.

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

Their most expensive birds are not at any other breeders in the US. Greenfire Farms' market niche is much different than virtually any other breeder. While they may have some of the same breeds others have, most are not attainable elsewhere here. Extremely rare breeds and the concept of SOP are...

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

It is pretty hard and expensive. It isn't a simple matter of getting some permits, flying to the country, buying some eggs of the desired breed and hopping back on the plane. I certainly wouldn't go through such an expense without hand carrying the eggs - not trusting them to shipping. I agree...

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

For those that suspect some breeds are fake, I refer you to 3 pages from The Feather Site. While it isn't a complete list, it has most of the chicken breeds in the world. Perhaps half or even a majority don't exist in the US. So if we haven't heard of them, it doesn't mean they don't exist...

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

If they are an original importation, they are. Unless someone bypassed importation rules and snuck some eggs in.

What are your thoughts on Greenfire Farms?

My personal opinion is that they don't have fake breeds but breeds that have previously not existed in the states. I have not purchased from them (too rich for my blood) but feel they provide a valuable service for those not willing to go through the time, expense, research and travel necessary...
