    Two sick pullets

Final update. My poor legbar “Snowflake” was euthanized today. I did another necropsy, sorry no pictures. Her crop stopped emptying and she started dropping even more weight. The warm spell ended and she wasn’t happy. It looked like she had similar vascularized tumours. The biggest ones...

    Two sick pullets

Just another update. The legbar with the impacted crop is doing well. I think she was just dehydrated and her food turned into an impacted, slightly doughy ball. I brought her in the garage where she was happy to drink a lot on her own. After two days it was smaller, but hadn't disappeared...

    Two sick pullets

The liquid came out of her intestines. The abdominal cavity looked normal when I opened her up. No lash eggs or egg material anywhere. Can anyone identify what is in the two body cavity pictures? Sitting beside the proventriculus? It looks vascularized, but doesn't look to me like lungs/air...

    Two sick pullets

****GRAPHIC*** We chose to euthanize the poor barred rock tonight. She didn’t have any reflex when her feet were touched. The legbars crop was full and firm again, but as soon as she had a drink it softened. We’ll see how it is in the morning. I’ve attached pictures of the necropsy.

    Two sick pullets

This morning the barred rock was having a lot more trouble with her legs. Unable to get around on her own at all so I placed her in a box in the garage. She's still happily eating and drinking which is making it harder to decide what to do with her. If she can't walk on her own tonight when I...

    Two sick pullets

There’s no evidence of Bumblefoot, mites, or lice. If I touch the bottom of her feet she curls her toes to “hang on”, but I noticed she keeps them curled until I set her down. She was able to hop up on the roost by herself tonight so crossing my fingers that the vitamin B complex might be...

    Two sick pullets

update So things improved slightly and then have gone slightly downhill. The barred rock started experiencing some weakness (possible paralysis) in her legs. Her balance is off. Not sure if it's weakness from all the weight she lost with the diarrhea, or if it's something like Marek's...

    Two sick pullets

Update The Baytril seems to be working. Both girls started eating again Monday morning and their poop is firming up. The barred rock is pretty much back to her normal self. The legbar is still a bit lethargic but definitely improved. I ordered a bottle of Baytril and some probiotics online...

    Two sick pullets

Update The vet finally got back to me himself. He didn’t know what a lash egg was but I convinced him to give me some enthrofloxacin (Baytril). He gave me enough for both girls for 7 days. Fingers crossed. I’ll keep giving them small amounts of yoghurt with their regular food since they...

    Two sick pullets

Checked everyone over this morning. Crops and abdomens still feel normal. They’re drinking a lot, but aren’t that interested in eating. So at this point symptoms include - diarrhea - weight loss - a couple soft shelled eggs a month ago - one tiny lash egg yesterday 2 pullets affected...

    Two sick pullets

I thought I put it in the first post but I guess not - yes I’m assuming the lash egg came from the legbar. I haven’t found anything else that resembles a lash egg and I clean the coop out several times a week. The barred rock was the first to have a dirty vent. Everyone in the current flock...

    Two sick pullets

I did give the legbar some calcium with D3 when she laid the soft shelled eggs a month ago. There’s always oyster shell on the side too. I’ll give some of the tablets to both of them in the morning. I do have uniprim and sulfatrim for the horses. If the vet won’t give me anything I could...

    Two sick pullets

Thanks. Unfortunately you’re confirming what I’ve been worried about all day. I told the receptionist about the lash egg when I called and I’m guessing that didn’t get passed on. I think i’ll call again first thing in the morning. The girls are pets so I’d rather exhaust all my options...

    Two sick pullets

I've got two pullets (one barred rock and one cream legbar) who both stopped laying at the beginning of January. Around that time I found about 4 soft shell eggs, couldn't figure out which one was doing it though. I *think* it was the legbar though. Prior to that the barred rock had some...
